Genealogy of Life explores the idea that speciation occurs by hybridization as well as by the more conventional accumulation of mutations.

The source of the genealogy presented here in our database is a conversion of data from the Catalogue of Life which currently contains over 1.2 million species.

This data was converted to a Genealogical Data Communication (GEDCOM) of over 2 million “individuals” with each unique taxonomic level qualifying an individual belonging to one of eight Kingdom Trees.
